Refer a Young Person
The referral of a young person into Breakaway Youth generally happens through a local school or youth support agency, however we would still love to hear from you.
If you are considering referring a young person, please keep reading to learn more about our referral criteria and visit our Program Page for more information on how we operate.
Program Eligibility
-
Our program is designed for young people who begin in Grade 5 (around 10 years old) and continue through to 15–16 years of age (5-6 years in the program). This long-term engagement allows for consistent mentoring and meaningful relationship-building over many years.
-
Breakaway Youth operates primarily within Melbourne’s inner northern suburbs, with close proximity to our Preston headquarters being important as we regularly transport campers by bus.
Please refer to the Residential Location Border to see whether your child is eligible.
-
We are a term-based and camp-based program, with young people attending monthly camps and activities throughout the year. Ongoing monthly participation is important, as the program is built around consistent relationships and gradual development over time.
-
Our program primarily supports young people who are at a socioeconomic disadvantage, and who may not have access to encouragement and positive role modelling in a safe and supportive environment in their daily lives.
