Our Facilities
Breakaway Hub - Preston, VIC
Tucked away in a crowded corner is one of Preston’s most unique spaces: a refurbished World War II bunker that now serves as our metropolitan base. Leased from the Scouts for over 20 years, Breakaway Youth is now the proud owner of this dynamic and multi-purpose hub. From here, we manage our administration, store our adventure supplies, host family and community functions and transform the space into the perfect School Holiday games room, making our Preston site a practical, character-filled hub that supports Breakaway Youth’s programs throughout the year.
Millers Lodge (aka Glendale) - Taggerty, VIC
Just 90 minutes from our Preston hub, ‘Glendale’ is a 45-acre property owned by Breakaway, offering a unique blend of natural bushland and practical facilities. Approximately 70% of the land remains untouched bush, with the remaining 30% open grass space to support camps, sports and group activities.
Glendale features two accommodation spaces: Miller’s Lodge, which can house up to 20 guests; Merv’s Cabin, for smaller groups. Together with several established lightweight camping areas—and more planned for the future—the site offers flexible accommodation options to suit different group sizes and weather conditions.
Since the Black Saturday fires in 2009, the property has undergone significant upgrades, including a new roof and kitchen at Miller’s Lodge, solar power backup, expanded water storage, improved fire safety infrastructure, and better vehicle access and parking.
Today, Glendale is a safe, versatile, and welcoming space for Breakaway Youth programs that can be delivered all year round — a peaceful home away from home.
Zone of Operation
Our approach is to have the least number of restrictions for onboarding young people as possible. As we offer transportation to and from homes however, we do need to restrict these distances. Our pickup zone is from Preston to Epping indicated in the map. Whilst we may have some restrictions where we pick up and drop off, we can assure you there are never any, when it comes to how far we will go to find adventure!
